- Upsets: A game is considered an upset if a lower rated players defeats a higher rated player. We rank upsets based on the rating differential of the two players, with the upset featuring the largest differential winning the prize. Because it is not possible to calculate an upset differential for unrated players, unrated players are not eligible for the upset prize; however, they are eligble for 1st and 2nd place prizes.
- Ratings: We will take official USCF ratings on the evening of February 28 to be player ratings. If no such ratings are available, we will use provisional ratings. If that is unavailable, the player is considered unrated for the purposes of prizes. Unrated players may not win prizes other than 1st and 2nd place prizes nor do their defeats/victories count as upsets.
