The registration deadline is Friday, January 30, 10 PM EST. To play, you must register and pay online before the deadline because pairing for round one is performed prior to tournament start.

Details

  • Payment: Please pay the tournament entry to OkemosChess24(AT)gmail(DOT)com on Cash App and include a note with the player name and USCF ID in the payment. If you’re opening a new Cash App account, you can use referral code 5DWL4F7 to get a $5 bonus in Cash App.
  • Refunds: If you wish to refund your registration, please email okemoschess24(AT)gmail(DOT)com with a refund request, using your registration email, prior to the registration deadline (Friday, January 30, 10 PM EST).
  • Logistics: Fill out and follow the instructions in the registration form. Then, pay the tournament entry fee via Cash App.
  • Date: Saturday, January 31, 2026.
  • Scheduled Time: Runs from 10:15 AM - 5:30 PM ET (rounds at 10:15, 11:35, 1:20, 2:40, 4:00)
  • Location: East Lansing Public Library - 950 Abbot Rd, East Lansing, MI 48823
  • Prizes: (based on a target turnout of 40 players) 1st: $200, 2nd: $120, Top Under 1500: $60, Top Under 1000 $40, Top Upset: $60. Note that these prizes scale with player turnout. If only 10 players show up, all the prizes are 10/40 = 1/4 of what is listed (ie 1st $50 … Top Upset $15).
  • Upsets: A game is considered an upset if a lower rated players defeats a higher rated player. We rank upsets based on the rating differential of the two players, with the upset featuring the largest differential winning the prize.
  • Ratings: We will take official USCF ratings on the evening of January 29 to be player ratings. If no such ratings are available, we will use provisional ratings. If that is unavailable, the player is considered unrated for the purposes of prizes. Unrated players may not win prizes other than 1st and 2nd place prizes nor do their defeats/victories count as upsets.
  • Format: 5 round swiss, all players play 5 rounds, no elimination
  • Rating mode: USCF regular and quick rated
  • Time control: Game 40 with no delay nor increment (G/40; d0)
  • Please bring: chess clock, pen, and chess set
